Writer's Workshop — POETRY

 


For thirteen Tuesday evenings in the Spring, the Walt Whitman Arts Center will host a WRITER'S WORKSHOP for intermediate and serious poets.

Workshop limited to fourteen participants selected by manuscript entry.

The workshop has an admission fee of $45.00.

Sessions begin promptly at 6:30 pm and conclude at 8:30pm, at the Center, on the second floor in the Walt Whitman Gallery.

Manuscript submission requirements:

Attendees of FICTION WORKSHOP will not be considered.

Deadline for receipt of manuscript is January 7, 2009.
Manuscripts may be hand-delivered, but no C.O.D.s.

Manuscripts will be reviewed for completeness (first drafts acceptable, but must be complete) and intelligence, to determine skill level.

Workshop is designed for intermediate serious writers. No publishing experience necessary, but helpful. We're seeking to help writer's find voice and style enough to get published more often.

Candidates will be selected by the facilitator, which this year will be Charles Bechtel, the Executive Director of the Walt Whitman Arts Center. A Masters graduate of Temple University's writing program, he has taught Creative Writing at Rowan University, published extensively, and has owned a publishing company.

No manuscripts will be returned
(but you can come for them at the Center between 10a.m. and 4 p.m

Page Numbers and a telephone number must appear on each page.
You can put your name on it, but unless you won a Nobel Prize, it won't impress anyone.

Manuscript need not be used in Workshop. It's for assessment of ability and control.
Manuscripts for review and workshops should be 12 pt. Times Roman, doublespaced, with regular margins, one side of 8.5 x 11 white 20# BOND (you know: copy paper.)

Manuscript may be experimental, but you better be good at it. Workshops can get rough, althought the facilitator will be there to keep things civil.
Manuscripts for workshop consideration should be brought to the first night, for photocopying by the Center for workshop use. DO NOT put your phone number on copies used in workshop.
